Identifying independent events given descriptions of experiments

Two events are independent if the occurrence of one event does not affect the probability of the other event occurring.

Most everything we do in this class is independent.  Any time you replace the item after the first event, it will be independent.  Or when it the probability doesn't change, like a die or coin.

Two events are dependent if the occurrence of one event does affect the probability of the other event occurring.

If something must happen first before the other event, then it would be dependent.  Or if you remove the item after the first event, you have changed the probability and it is dependent.
